An Italian Academy that once counted the trailblazing astronomer Galileo Galilei amongst its ranks has recognized a Michigan State University researcher whose ambitions extend beyond Earth's orbit.

In a paper published in Trends in Plant Science, a coalition organized by MSU’s Plant Resilience Institute called for global collaboration between farmers, scientists and policymakers to cultivate crops that can withstand increasingly harsh environmental conditions. 

Researchers from the Walker lab are looking at how paper birch trees are acclimatizing to changing environments through how they manage a vital plant process called photorespiration.
