Fall 2018

PLB GSO meetings for Spring 2018 will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (10/17, 11/21, 12/19) at 10am, in PLB 240.

The PLB departmental seminar is every Friday at 3:30pm, in MPS 1200.

The PLB Student & Postdoc Lecture Series (SPLS) is every other Monday (10/1, 10/15, 10/29, 11/12, 11/29, 12/3) from 12-1pm in PLB 103. Contact Eleanore or Isaac ( or Sign up at the link below.

Apple Butter Festival at Fenner Nature Center

Time: 11am. Location: Fenner Nature Center

Description: Enjoy a fall event and walk around the nature area

Happy Hour

Time: 7:00pm. Location: Lansing Brewing Company (518 E Shiawassee St, Lansing, MI 48912)

Description: Meet at a bar, socialize

October 22nd

Fall Colors Leaf Walk

Time: Noon. Location: Baker Woodlot

Description: Walk around the woodlot and enjoy the fall leaves

Description: Bring a dish and enjoy a meal together

November 2nd

Chili Cookoff

Time: 6:00pm. Location: BPS Atrium

Description: Eat some free chili. Vote on chili. Socialize.

If you would like to make a chili and be entered to win magnificent  
prizes, please fill out the following form: ASAP. This is so we can order you a t-shirt of the proper size. You may sign up later, but you are not guaranteed to get an appropriately-sized t-shirt. More information for chili chefs is provided on the form.

We also need volunteers to help set up, hang flyers, and especially label cups! Please consider signing up to volunteer on this form:

Description: Exchange cookies, eat cookies, even if you didn't bring cookies

MSU Student Foodbank:

What? - Volunteer to help distribute food

When? - 5pm - 8pm Every other Wednesday (Next up on October 17th)

Where? - Olin Health Center (main entrance)
Notes: They only accept the first 20 volunteers. They want people that can stay the entire time.


Darwin Discovery Day:

What? - Hosted by the MSU Museum, offers science activity booths open to the public

When? - Sunday February 10th, 2019 from 1-5pm

Where? MSU Museum

Notes: Need to conceive a short activity to teach the public about how cool plant science is. Need volunteers to work a booth


Girl's STEM Day:

What? - Outreach activity for ages K-4th grade

When? - Saturday November 17th, 1-4pm

Where? - MSU Engineering and Anthony Hall Buildings

Notes: GWIS (Graduate Women In Science) is hosting two activities and will take volunteers if anyone is interested


National Fossil Day at MSU Museum:

What? - Another activity coordinated by the MSU Museum

When? - October 14th

Where? - MSU Museum

Notes: General volunteers wanted, you don't need to know anything about fossils!
